Once you have submitted your purchase order, we will phone you to confirm your details, arrange payment and book a delivery time convenient to you.
At Whitegoods, one of our many aims is to answer your questions as truthfully and succinctly as possible. Here is just a handful of the ones we are asked most often.
If you have any other questions, or would like to hear one of these answers straight from the horse's mouth, call us on (01483) 427 464 and a member of our team will be only too happy to oblige.
Who are you?
We are an independent shop in Farncombe, near Godalming. Whitegoods has been in existence for nearly eleven years. We pride ourselves on our service and the wide choice of manufacturers we offer. In essence, we are a modern business with an old fashioned attitude towards service. The Customer is our primary concern.
What do you sell?
We sell integrated and free standing appliances such as washing machines, washer/dryers, tumble dryers, spin dryers, cookers, hobs, built-in ovens and refrigeration units.
We offer goods from over fifty brands from Ariston to Zanussi including Bosch, Cannon, Creda, Electrolux, Gorenje, Hotpoint, Maytag, Siemens ... the list goes on. We usually have a stock of well over 100 appliances in our shop at any one time, but that is just the tip of the iceberg: if you want a specific machine, we will try our hardest to get it for you - and often more quickly that anyone else.
Impartial Advice? Isn't that just a sales gimmick?
No. We want your business, and any shop that tells you otherwise is fooling no one or going out of business. However, we want your repeat business and we want you to recommend us to your friends and family, which is why we will advise you based on your requirements and not based on what we have on the shop floor or need to sell by the end of the week.
If you have criteria, be it budget, function, manufacturer, or the aesthetic look of the appliance, or you have no firm idea of what you want, we are more than happy to offer you advice. Bear in mind that the most expensive machine isn't necessarily the best option for you. Customers often walk away having spent less money than they originally anticipated. And while we hope that you will buy from us, there is no pressure to do so.
I'm looking for a specific machine...
Not a problem. If you know what you're looking for, give us a call and we'll do our level best to get it for you, with no extra charges to pay for ordering a specific machine. However, if you decide to buy from us, we may charge a 50% non refundable deposit when you place the order. This deposit is then deducted from your final invoice.
What are 'Graded' appliances?
These machines may have some cosmetic damage (not on the front of the machine) or may be end of line or overruns. They are all brand new but at greatly reduced prices and carry the Manufacturer's full guarantee.
Do you offer extended warrantees?
No. We believe that customers would prefer to take out an extended warranty via the Manufacturer. If you want an extended warranty it can be arranged easily when you fill in the guarantee card after purchase.
There isn't an option for payment on this website. How do I pay for my machine?
When you place your order on our website, your details are sent through to our sales team who will then phone you back to confirm your order, arrange any delivery details and talk about payment options.
When do I have to pay for an appliance that is not in stock?
If you are ordering an appliance that we normally stock, but that we don't have in the shop or warehouse, you will not be expected to pay for it until it arrives at our shop. If we have your machine ready for delivery, you may pay for it over the phone with a major debit or credit card (excluding American Express), you may come into the shop and pay in person, or you may provide a cheque or cash payment upon delivery.
Do you offer easy payments?
No.
How much do you charge for delivery?
We offer free delivery to houses within the GU1, GU2, GU3, GU7 and GU8 postcode areas, but after that we start charging a (fair and reasonable) delivery fee.
To find out how much it might cost you to have an appliance delivered to your door, please go to our Deliveries page.
Do I qualify for free delivery?
If the delivery address is in or around Guildford (postcode areas GU1, GU2, GU3, GU7 and GU8), then the answer is yes.
Areas outside these postcode districts will incur a delivery charge. Of course, picking your appliance up from the shop yourself is absolutely free. However, you will need to supply your own muscle as shop staff are not able to help you load the machine into your vehicle.
When can you deliver?
We deliver between 9 am and 4pm Tuesday through to Saturday. If we have the machine is stock we can have it on your front doorstep the next day or sometimes even the same day . Ordering a machine may take any time from one day upwards to arrive, depending on how hard-to-find an appliance it is and whether the manufacturer has it in stock. Once it is in stock we aim to deliver within one working day or when convenient to the customer.
You have the machine and I need it as soon as possible.
If there is space on our delivery schedule we may be able to deliver on the day you buy your appliance. If that is impossible then we can deliver to you on the next delivery day. Whitegoods operates its delivery schedule on one-and-a-half hour timeslots, starting from 9:00am and running to 4:00pm. None of this vague "morning or afternoon" delivery times you might get from some other stores, if we say we will be there between 9:00am and 10:30am, that's when you can expect us. We don't charge extra for Saturday deliveries. If, by any chance, we are delayed we will 'phone you and let you know, so you won't be hanging around wondering what has happened to your promised delivery.
I live in a second floor flat. Will you still deliver?
Yes.
I want a delivery to an address other than my home.
No problem. We supply a lot of machines to Letting Agents properties. If the property is empty we will even phone you before arrival so that you can get to the property to meet us and not be left hanging around for 1½ hours. If you live locally we will even collect the key from you and return it after delivery. Alternatively if you drop the key into the shop we will deliver the appliance and hold the key until you can collect it.
Do you install the appliances you sell?
For a small charge, we can install any electrical machine we sell but we cannot install anything that requires gas or oil. For fee rates for the services we supply, please see our Services page.
Installation of gas or oil appliances requires a Corgi-registered plumber. Whitegoods is not Corgi registered, but if you need a gas appliance installed, we can point you towards companies that will do the job. Whitegoods cannot guarantee or accept responsibility for their work.
Will you take away my old machine?
For a small charge (which may vary depending on what the old machine is) we will take your unwanted machine away and recycle it. Please see our services page for a full list of the services we provide and their costs.
Why do you charge so much more for recycling refrigeration units?
Back in 2002, the European Community introduced legislation that all household refrigerators that use Ozone Depleting Substances must be recycled in a safe manner. In 1994 refrigeration manufacturers stopped building units with Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in their insulating foams and coolant, but for several years following they instead used Hydro chlorofluorocarbon (HCFCs) which, while not as damaging as CFCs, are still hazardous and still deplete ozone.
While the use of HCFCs in the manufacture of refrigerators petered out in around the year 2000, the 10 to 15 year lifespan of the modern fridge means there is a good chance an old machine contains Ozone Depleting Substances of one form or another - and these substances must be subjected to a special recycling process:
The CFC- or HCFC-loaded coolant is drained out of the compressor and disposed of and the fridge is then shredded within a sealed environment to separate out metal, plastics and insulating foam. The foam is crushed to a powder under a vacuum, which draws out any Ozone Depleting Substances and renders the powder hazard-free, and the leftover metal, plastics and foam are sold or processed for reuse.
Many of the refrigeration units that we dispose of are degassed and shipped abroad for reconstruction or repair. Just another example of global recycling.
OK, but I'm still not happy about paying the extra cost for you to take away my old refrigerator. Is there any way around that?
At the time of writing, your local council is obliged to accept your old fridge for recycling at designated collection points. You can simply take your old fridge to one of these collection points and they will recycle it for you free of charge. Some councils even offer a collection service, but they may well charge for this. Because the recycle process is expensive, some councils may also ask you to provide proof that you reside in their borough before accepting your unwanted machine.
How come I've never heard of you?
While we provide outstanding service and a tremendous range of appliances at competitive prices, we are still a local shop. Despite steady advertising campaigns and a very large van driving around Surrey with our name written down its side, most people know of us through recommendations and word-of-mouth.
If you've never heard of us, the chances are no one has mentioned us to you before. If you have experienced a good service from us and are pleased with how you have been dealt with, please help spread the word by telling your friends and family about us.
